Direct physician contact can clarify a situation, direct intervention, minimize unnecessary evacuations, and trigger the transport decision before serious situations become critical. Many evacuations prove in retrospect to be unnecessary. The cost of a single unnecessary medical evacuation far outweighs the cost of a full year of our physician medical control service, and of course the cost of a life or limb saved cannot be measured.
